Understand profit calculations
VoltPro provides detailed profit calculations and visualizations to help you understand your estimate profitability.
How VoltPro Calculates Basic Profit
For each line item:
Material Profit: (Price × Quantity × (1 + Markup%)) - (Cost × Quantity)
Fixed-Price Item Profit: (Fixed Price × Quantity) - (Cost × Quantity)
Labor Profit: (Labor Rate × Hours) - (Labor Cost × Hours)
The total profit is the sum of all individual item profits.
Profit Visualization
VoltPro displays profit information in a visual progress bar:
Green Section: Represents your profit amount
Yellow Section: Represents your cost amount
The relative sizes of these sections show your profit margin at a glance
Below the progress bar, you'll see:
Profit amount in currency (e.g., "$1,250")
Cost amount in currency (e.g., "$3,750")

Detailed Profit Breakdown
To see a detailed breakdown:
Hover over the profit badge in the totals section.
A popover appears showing:
Materials profit
Labor profit
Total profit amount
Profit margin percentage

Profit Margin Calculation
VoltPro calculates profit margin as:
Profit Margin % = (Total Profit ÷ Subtotal) × 100
This represents the percentage of your revenue that is profit.
The profit margin calculation appears when you hover over the progress bar.
