Understand profit calculations

VoltPro provides detailed profit calculations and visualizations to help you understand your estimate profitability.

How VoltPro Calculates Basic Profit

For each line item:

  1. Material Profit: (Price × Quantity × (1 + Markup%)) - (Cost × Quantity)
  2. Fixed-Price Item Profit: (Fixed Price × Quantity) - (Cost × Quantity)
  3. Labor Profit: (Labor Rate × Hours) - (Labor Cost × Hours)

The total profit is the sum of all individual item profits.

Profit Visualization

VoltPro displays profit information in a visual progress bar:

  1. Green Section: Represents your profit amount
  2. Yellow Section: Represents your cost amount
  3. The relative sizes of these sections show your profit margin at a glance

Below the progress bar, you’ll see:

  • Profit amount in currency (e.g., “$1,250”)
  • Cost amount in currency (e.g., “$3,750”)

Detailed Profit Breakdown

To see a detailed breakdown:

  1. Hover over the profit badge in the totals section.
  2. A popover appears showing:
  • Materials profit
  • Labor profit
  • Total profit amount
  • Profit margin percentage

Profit Margin Calculation

VoltPro calculates profit margin as:

  1. Profit Margin % = (Total Profit ÷ Subtotal) × 100
  2. This represents the percentage of your revenue that is profit.
  3. The profit margin calculation appears when you hover over the progress bar.
